Are there key messages I can draw from when writing about RISD?
In the editorial style guide’s key messages section you’ll find topline and supporting messages and more specific language on a variety of topics, as well as RISD’s “boilerplate” summary paragraph and supporting facts and figures.

What are the abbreviations for each academic department?
How do I reference a student or alum’s class year and major?
You’ll find a list of departmental abbreviations and direction on how to note a person’s RISD affiliation in the RISD-specific terminology and best practices section. You’ll also find other style notes like not putting a “the” before “Rhode Island School of Design” when referring to the official name of the college and using “first-year” instead of “freshman.”

Where can I find the names of RISD’s buildings, administrative departments and resources?

When should I use an ampersand or plus sign instead of “and”?

To ensure that RISD has a strong and strategic presence on social media, the Media Group is charged with determining the right mix of specialized accounts. If you’d like to propose a new account, please contact Jaime Marland, RISD’s senior director of PR, for consideration.
